That mission gets right to the heart of what The Student HUB does. Based in Arizona, The Student HUB helps students access the everyday resources they need so they can keep working toward school, graduation, and a better future.

It’s also a great example of what can happen after you recycle a gently used bra with The Bra Recyclers. About The Student HUB

HUB stands for Help Undoing Barriers, and those barriers can look very different from student to student. The organization provides physical resource centers where students can access food, clothing, hygiene items, laundry services, technology, Wi-Fi, and other necessities. They also help connect students with longer-term resources related to housing, behavioral health, employment, counseling, and other needs.

The Student HUB serves approximately 3,000 people each year, with young adults ages 18–25 making up the largest portion of the people they support. About 70% of those they serve live below the federal poverty line, and approximately 70% are experiencing homelessness or housing instability.

For some students, that can mean trying to continue their education while moving from place to place or staying on someone else’s couch. Having a place where they can wash their clothes, access Wi-Fi, get food, or connect with someone who can help them find additional resources can make it easier to keep looking ahead.

And bras are part of that picture, too.

The Student HUB shared that sports bras are one of their biggest undergarment needs, particularly in standard sizes XS–XL. They estimate needing approximately 500 bras and underwear items each year to fully support the people they serve.

During a conversation with The Bra Recyclers, Resource Specialist Rachel Dluhy recalled a student coming in and simply saying, “I really need a bra.”

It’s a simple request, but it shows why these everyday essentials matter.

How This Connects to Our Community

When you recycle a gently used bra through The Bra Recyclers, the goal is to find the best next use for it.

Bras that are clean, wearable, and suitable for a second life are sorted and prepared for reuse. Through The Undie Chest, those garments can then be distributed to nonprofit partners serving people who need them.

For The Student HUB, that means bras can become part of the resources available directly to students.

So the journey can be surprisingly simple:

You recycle a bra → The Bra Recyclers sorts it → The Undie Chest helps redistribute it → The Student HUB gets it into the hands of a student who needs it.

That’s why we talk so much about reuse first. A bra you no longer wear may still have plenty of life left in it, and giving it a second life can help meet a very real need for someone else.

Items that aren’t suitable for redistribution are separated and considered for other responsible pathways, such as textile recycling, upcycling, or material recovery when appropriate options are available. We want to keep wearable garments in use as long as possible while being thoughtful about what happens next.
