What Is Earth Month and Why Our Voices Matter More Than Ever in 2026

Earth Month is recognized globally every April as a time to raise awareness about environmental issues and encourage more sustainable habits in our everyday lives.

It’s a moment to pause, look at what we use and discard, and consider how small shifts can make a real difference.

During Earth Month, people everywhere take action in different ways. Here are a few simple ideas you can start with.

#1 Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

Practice the three R's of sustainability. Consciously reduce your consumption of single-use items, such as plastic bags and water bottles. Reuse items instead of buying new ones whenever possible. Recycle gently used bras or new underwear through programs designed to keep textiles out of landfills and in use where they’re needed.

Bras and underwear are some of the most commonly discarded textile items, yet many still have life left in them. Earth Month is a great time to clear out drawers responsibly, reducing waste while helping essential items reach people who need them

#2 Conserve Energy

Make an effort to save energy by turning off lights and electronics when not in use. Consider replacing traditional light bulbs with energy-efficient LED bulbs. Unplug electronics that continue to draw power even when turned off. Use natural light and ventilation whenever possible, reducing the need for electrical lighting and air conditioning.

#3 Choose Sustainable Transportation

Reduce your carbon footprint by using public transportation, carpooling, biking, or walking whenever feasible. If you must drive, consider carpooling with colleagues or running multiple errands in one trip to save both fuel and emissions.

#4 Go Paperless

Aim to reduce paper waste by opting for online billing and statements. Save and store important documents digitally instead of printing them out. Utilize technology and digital tools whenever possible to minimize the need for paper.

#5 Support Local and Sustainable Brands

Choose products and services from companies that prioritize environmentally friendly practices. Look for brands that use sustainable materials, prioritize ethical sourcing, or have transparent production processes. Support local businesses to reduce the environmental impact of shipping.

#6 Plant Trees

Join or organize tree-planting activities in your community. Trees play a vital role in absorbing carbon dioxide and releasing oxygen, helping combat climate change. Planting trees not only improves air quality but also provides habitat for wildlife and prevents soil erosion.

#7 Educate and Inspire

Share your knowledge and passion for the environment by engaging in discussions and raising awareness among friends, family, and colleagues. Use social media platforms or organize workshops and events to educate others about sustainable practices and the importance of environmental protection.
