TogetherTuesday: Where Sustainability and Community Impact Come Together
Together We Can Make A Difference
Today is #TogetherTuesday, a day that celebrates what can happen when people, businesses, and communities work together with purpose.
At The Bra Recyclers, we have always believed that sustainability is about more than keeping textiles out of landfills.
It is also about making sure usable products reach people who can benefit from them.
That is where The Undie Chest comes in.
The Undie Chest, the nonprofit arm of The Bra Recyclers, helps distribute new underwear and clothing to students, families, and individuals experiencing poverty, homelessness, crisis, and other major transitions.
Together, our work creates both environmental and community impact.
Look What Our Community Has Helped Make Possible
So far in 2026, The Undie Chest has donated 7,932 pounds of new underwear and clothing.
That puts the organization just 68 pounds away from reaching its original 8,000-pound goal for the entire year.
This work has already helped support:
Two Phoenix-area school districts serve approximately 24,000 students and their families
Eleven organizations supporting families experiencing homelessness, crisis, and other major transitions
Behind every pound is a person.
It may be a student who can walk into school feeling clean, comfortable, and confident.
It may be a family moving into temporary housing with one less essential item to worry about.
It may be a parent who can use limited resources for food, rent, transportation, and other urgent needs because underwear and clothing have already been provided.
This is what happens when reusable products are directed where they can create meaningful impact.
Sustainability in Action
The environmental impact of this work matters, too.
By keeping usable products in circulation instead of sending them to a landfill, our 2026 impact to date has created an environmental benefit comparable to recycling 30.8 tons of waste rather than landfilling it.
Another way to picture that impact is the greenhouse gas emissions associated with driving an average gasoline-powered passenger vehicle more than 222,000 miles or consuming approximately 9,822 gallons of gasoline.
These comparisons help show why reuse matters.
When businesses, retailers, brands, and individuals redirect usable products rather than discarding them, they reduce waste while helping essential items reach people who need them.
What Comes Next: Back to School
Now, we are preparing to carry this impact into one of The Undie Chest’s greatest annual efforts: the Back to School Undie Drive.
The 2026 goals are to:
Collect 5,000 pairs of new underwear
Raise $10,000 to help support students and schools
Clean underwear may seem like a small thing, but for a student who does not have enough, it can affect comfort, confidence, attendance, and the ability to focus in the classroom.
This campaign helps ensure students have access to essential undergarments before the new school year begins.
Celebrating the School Heroes Behind the Mission
This year, The Undie Chest will also shine a light on the teachers, school nurses, and school professionals who go above and beyond every day to support students and families.
These school heroes are often the first to notice when a student needs clean underwear, clothing, hygiene products, or a little extra care.
They quietly step in, find solutions, and make sure students have what they need to stay in school and focus on learning.
Throughout August, The Undie Chest will share their stories and celebrate the difference they make.
How You Can Help Continue the Impact
This #TogetherTuesday, we are celebrating what our community has already helped accomplish.
We are also inviting you to help carry that impact forward.
Your financial support can help The Undie Chest prepare for the Back to School Undie Drive, purchase the sizes schools need most, organize and store donations, and distribute essential undergarments to students and families.
Retailers and brands can also help by donating new overstock, returns, samples, discontinued products, or excess inventory.
Together, we can keep usable products in circulation, reduce textile waste, and provide essential items to people who need them.
